Over a year ago, I wrote a piece on trends driving CPG Commerce Growth that I feel needs to be revisited. The catalyst for circling back on this topic comes from a recent report published by Jumpstart related to the “CPG eCommerce Landscape."  My primary theme in the original blogs was three-fold: sell direct, collaborate with retailers and sell via marketplaces. Those recommendations still hold, but Jumpstart’s report highlights through hard facts how CPG brands should optimize these recommendations. Bottomline, they highlighted CPG purchases online have grown 22% since 2017, but most of that growth occurred in 2018. Year-over-year growth in 2019 to date has slowed to around 3%. This pushes a strategy to balance CPG sales for D2C, through retailers, and marketplaces. Let’s give a little context first on what I recommended initially.

Early in the spring, I attended Salesforce World Tour in Boston and consistently heard from a couple local Salesforce Account Executive that Salesforce Connections is an awesome event for B2B Commerce. As XCentium has been planning for the conference, in parallel, I have been getting reach outs from a variety of other software partners who want to connect next week in Chicago   including Amplience, Bloomreach, Coveo, Mirakl and Sitecore. Then yesterday, I noticed Ray Grady’s LinkedIn post on growth in the B2B Commerce Partner Ecosystem which includes a bunch more companies involved in the AppExchange and my anticipation has now peaked. If you're looking to learn the latest in B2B Connected Commerce, here are five key sessions for your agenda builder.

A seamless checkout process is an important aspect of B2B Commerce.  We want the process to be as quick and painless as possible.  Any delays will make users think twice about finalizing the order.  One way to enhance the process is to preload address books for users at the time of site launch.  Most users do not want to retype their Bill To and Ship To addresses at checkout, if that information has already been provided and stored in the system.  A simple preloaded address book is a quick win and provides a great user experience in the first step of the checkout process.  Below are steps to mass preload address books using existing data in your system.

Many times, there is a need to create custom fields on objects for storing project specific custom data. We can create custom fields on any Salesforce B2B Commerce Cloud (previously CloudCraze) custom objects. However, below steps need to be followed in order to expose those fields on CC model and to be used on UI level when pages are rendered on storefront.

Communication with customers is an imperative aspect of B2BCommerce. Many organizations have specific customer service teams set aside to handle any issues raised by users of a B2B commerce system. Customer service has several communication channels , among them a live chat feature has been gaining popularity. This is not a chat bot. Those have a place as well, but this post concerns itself with the value added proposition of supporting ones customers via an actual human being. Read this blog for a step by step guide on how to implement Live Agent chat.
