Global food producer

Migrated a Contentful-powered website from on-premises hosting to Microsoft Azure. Documented release steps, enabled content previews, and resolved a Brandfolder authentication issue to support website operations.

About the client

The client is a global food producer serving retail and foodservice markets. Its operations span processing, production, and sales, with a focus on responsible sourcing and sustainable practices.

Challenge

The client used Contentful to manage website content, while its website application ran on an on-premises virtual machine. Its infrastructure team already used Microsoft Azure and wanted to bring the website onto the same cloud platform for more consistent management. The move required updates to how website changes were released, along with documentation for the new setup. The client also needed content previews, a fix for a Brandfolder authentication issue, and guidance on priorities for improving the existing code.

Solution

We partnered with the client to move its website application to Azure while retaining Contentful for content management. Working from the existing code, we migrated the application and established separate environments for developing changes and running the live website.

We updated the process for deploying website changes and documented the configuration and release steps. This gave the infrastructure team a clear reference for managing updates after the migration. We also supported the website’s launch in the new environment.

Alongside the hosting work, we enabled previews so editors could review unpublished website content and resolved the identified Brandfolder authentication issue. We also assessed the application code and delivered prioritized recommendations covering performance, efficiency, security, and maintenance.

Outcomes

The client’s website now runs on Azure, bringing its hosting onto a cloud platform the infrastructure team already uses. The team has documented steps for releasing changes and separate environments for development and the live website, providing a defined process for managing updates.

Content editors can preview website content before publishing, and the Brandfolder authentication issue has been resolved. The client also has a prioritized set of technical recommendations to guide future improvements to the website.
